In 2023, thirty years had passed since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. We chose to mark this anniversary in our own way: with irony, nostalgia, and above all, music. In the centre of Brno, a video rental shop sprang up, transporting visitors back to the 1990s—a world of flickering CRT televisions, hissing VHS tapes, and dusty shelves of movie hits carried home in plastic bags bearing the rental shop’s logo.

A major new feature was a retro toilet with a laundry room—a space that combined the intimacy of everyday life with an unexpected musical setting. The walls were covered in bold orange wallpaper; an automatic washing machine stood in the corner, an ironing board beside it, and small details completed the scene—details familiar to anyone who lived through the nineties.

Musicians performed between the washing machine and the ironing board, in a space that at first glance felt utterly ordinary, yet came alive through music with a surprising atmosphere. v 2023 reminded us that music can transform even the most prosaic places into stages filled with emotion, memory, and shared experience.
