In 2022, we commemorated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Gregor Johann Mendel—the founder of genetics, whose discoveries fundamentally transformed our understanding of heredity. On this occasion, we decided to dedicate one of the festival’s “rooms” to him.

Mendel was not only a monk and a teacher, but above all a tireless and systematic observer of nature. He carried out his most important experiments in a greenhouse at the Augustinian monastery in Brno, where for many years he crossbred different varieties of peas and recorded how their traits were passed from one generation to the next. From these meticulous experiments emerged the laws of inheritance that became the foundation of modern genetics.

In his honour, we built a greenhouse in the city centre—a festival room inspired by this very space. It recalled Mendel’s scientific approach, grounded in precision, patience, and deep fascination with the laws of nature. The greenhouse was not the only stop: other themed rooms included a children’s room, a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom.
